Into the Silent Land: A Christian Guide to the Practices of Contemplation by Martin Laird.
I just finished this book and though with a definite Christian undertone, an excellent source for understanding and practicing the path of awakening. It talks quite a bit of about Centering Prayer as a beginning practice of quieting the chatter in the mind and the goes on to talk about the “doors” beyond that first one to finally become aware of the vastness of being, of God. If you don’t find Christian terms a problem for you, it might be useful to you.
